Background

I have been quilting since 1986. I started my own business, Doughty Designs, in 1991 and have been creating commissioned work ever since. My specialty is pictorial quilting, although I have created a broad range of work from bed quilts to wall hangings, postcard size to queen size, traditional to abstract, and wearables. I teach and lecture on various aspects of quilting. From 2006 - 2014 I was Studio Art Quilt Associates' (SAQA) website coordinator, and regional co-representative for Virginia, North Carolina and South Carolina 2002 - 2006. Since 2017, I have been a volunteer docent at the Smithsonian American Art Museum and Renwick Gallery.
