So much going on in the world, and somehow we seem to hear mostly about the negative. What about the positive news? Does it actually outweight the negative?
I put pins in the places where I knew of both good and bad news. Several dozen friends and acquaintances also made suggestions for locations. Tiny numbers on the heads of the pins refer to a list, if anyone is really that curious.
As a “retired” professional cartographer, I’m always up for an opportunity to use a map in my art. These globes were very satisfying to make. The “bad” (left) is a splitting map of expected global climate temperature changes, the “good” is a landform representation of our beautiful home planet. A thermometer spirals up the post.
To make it more interactive, I made two bowls of stitched vinyl, where visitors can put in slips of paper of either bad or good news.
