History of the Cape Neddick (Nubble) Lighthouse
The Cape Neddick Lighthouse received its nickname from its location on a little island, or “nubble”, just off Cape Neddick. Built in 1879, the tower is forty-one feet tall, but the light is eighty-eight feet above sea level due to its location atop a rocky cliff. An enclosed passageway connects the tower to the dwelling. Nubble Light is considered by many to be an outstanding example of a picturesque lighthouse.
