History of Drum Point Lighthouse
Drum Point Light, a hexagonal cottage-style lighthouse, was completed in 1883. Construction took only 33 days, as many components were prefabricated and the location was in shallow water. Today however it is high and dry at low water. It is supported by seven 10-inch wrought-iron piles. It is one of the few remaining screwpile lights remaining on the Chesapeake Bay. Drum Point Light was taken out of active service in 1962.
