Inspired by a short story by J.R.R. Tolkien, about the pursuit of artistic perfection and its just reward.
I first read the story “Leaf by Niggle” by Tolkien when I was a young teen. Its themes of creativity, the challenges of compassion, and the fragility of an artist’s legacy have gotten more poignant as I myself approach old age.
